Call of the Wilderness

It had been a long haul for Derek, gone from his home for more than 2 months. Being a space truck driver had its perks, but also its fair share of loneliness. He loved Darcy, his good old Caterpillar, but at home, another love awaited.

He wasn’t feeling sorry for himself in the slightest, had chosen this life himself and enjoyed being the lone wolf in space. Well, maybe the occasional gunner with him at times due to travelling some bad routes, but they rarely spoke. Seems both enjoyed it that way. A silent agreement between lone wolves.

Even so, coming back home, planetside, felt good. You know that feel good moment, when you see your shack in the woods and your old dog waiting for you patiently and wagging his tail, happy to see you once more. “One of these times, I won’t find him there anymore”, Derek thought to himself.

“Let’s go for a ride old boy, hop in the Cyclone”, and patted him on the head gently. “We’ll put on that song you like so much.
